Charleston, SC is best known for its beauty, Southern hospitality, and charm, but the food is both amazing and unforgettable too! Thanks to award-winning local chefs who focus on taking traditional Lowcountry fare to a new level, Charleston’s culinary scene has exploded in recent years. With so many great restaurants to choose from, it’s impossible to hit them all in one trip. We spent a week in Charleston before the Pandemic hit – here are 6 of our favorites!

Miller’s All Day:  Located at 120 King Street, Miller’s All Day serves great breakfasts and amazing cocktails ALL DAY!  This was the first place we visited when we got there and the last place we visited before we left. I’m a pancake person, so of course I ordered their Small Stacks from the menu with a side of bacon, and OMG, were they DELICIOUS! And the Classic Bloody Mary was one of the best I’ve ever had. As I mentioned, we hit this place up again before we left. The second time around I had the biscuits and gravy and another Classic Bloody Mary. All I can say is sooooo good – worth every calorie!!! Looking forward to making this our first stop again as soon as we can get back to Charleston.

Fleet Landing

Fleet Landing: Located at 186 Concord Street, Fleet Landing was the best casual waterfront dining options we went to (in our opinion). I had made reservations to have lunch here immediately following our 2-hour historical walking tour of downtown Charleston.  It was only a short distance from where the tour ended, and I knew my husband would love sitting by the water. By the time we got there the day was starting to heat up, so we luckily got a spot outside on the deck in the shade, at one of the tables under the eaves. We shared the Crispy Steak Calamari and the Fleet Landing Stuffed Hush Puppies and some mojitos while chatting about what we just learned about this beautiful city and what we wanted to do next. Definitely will visit Fleet Landing again next time we’re there.

82 Queen: Located at 82 Queen Street, 82 Queen is listed by TripAdvisor as one of The 10 best romantic restaurants in Charleston. It certainly was very romantic, with a beautiful bar area up front by the entrance, a quaint indoor dining area and an exquisite outdoor courtyard dining area.  We sat in the courtyard and it was truly delightful! The She Crab soup is a MUST if you’re in Charleston! This was the first time we tried it and it was amazing! I enjoyed the Carolina Crab Cakes and my husband really liked the Crispy Roasted Duck. Already looking forward to going back!

Eli’s Table

Eli’s Table:  Located at 129 Meeting Street, Eli’s Table was a real treat offering a romantic atmosphere, great food, and live jazz.  We walked everywhere in Charleston, and for me this place is memorable because we were rushing to get there on time for our reservation. and as soon as we passed through the doors a huge thunderstorm opened up and it started pouring rain!  Once inside, though, all thoughts of the storm evaporated as we were seated and started taking in the charm this lovely place had to offer.

I had the Shrimp & Grits, and my husband had the Duck & Waffles – both were delightful!

Charleston Grill:  Located within Charleston Place at 205 Meeting Street, Charleston Grill is great if you’re looking for a higher scale dining experience.  We started with the Charleston Grill Crab Cake followed by the Fish A La Plancha (for me) and the Prime Beef Tenderloin (for my husband). For dessert we shared the Chocolate Pot de Creme and the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. The food and the wine were magnificent, and we thoroughly enjoyed the live jazz entertainment. Would definitely recommend Charleston Grill!

Magnolia's Restaurant
Magnolia’s

Magnolia’s:  Located at 185 East Bay Street, Magnolia’s offers “Upscale Southern Cuisine” in a classic Southern setting.   Ranked #15 on TripAdvisor’s Best Romantic Restaurants list, we thought it should rank higher. Magnolia’s was highly recommended by several of our friends who travel to Charleston often, and we certainly weren’t disappointed. We started by sharing the House-made Pimento Cheese and Fried Green Tomatoes. For dinner, I had the Lump Crab Cakes (amazing), and my husband had the Shellfish over Grits (also amazing!). And for dessert we shared the Caramel Apple Crisp. (Remember I mentioned above that we walked everywhere? We had to in order to eat as much as we did!)

One of Charleston’s most highly rated Southern restaurants and wine bar, we’re looking forward to seeing what’s new on the menu when we get back again.

Charleston is one of my absolute FAVORITE cities to vacation in, and I can’t wait to get back there again! Heading there yourself for a vacation or business trip?
